Parramatta Park

Picnic and Play

Parramatta Park is an idyllic location and a beautiful place to gather with family and friends for a picnic, with several picnic shelters, barbecues, amenities and playgrounds available.

Picnic Shelters

Parramatta Park has many shelters available to picnickers. These can be hired; for more information on these shelters, availability, booking terms and fees, please see Book an Area.

Picnic Areas

The Park has lots of beautiful spaces and quieter nooks for a more peaceful picnic. Choose a lovely shaded area along the river around Race Course Flats, or head to Murray Gardens for a quiet spot that’s still conveniently close to Pavilion Flat Playground and the O’Connell Street parking area. Coleman Oval offers wide-open spaces for post-picnic run around. Explore the Park to find your own special place.

Pavilion Flat Playground

Please note that Pavilion Flat Playground is currently closed for renovations. The upgraded playground will reopen mid-2019.

Located close to the pedestrian entry at the George Street Gatehouse, this small playground is ideal for younger children. The playground is in a picturesque setting and features swings, spring rockers, a play-boat for make-believe sailing expeditions and more.

Domain Creek Playground

Opened in 2015 and located on the Westmead side of the Park opposite the Queens Road Gatehouse, this playground is suitable for all ages with a flying fox, slides, swings, trampolines, water pump, sand diggers and more. Spread out over a large area, there’s plenty of room to run around and explore!
