Roll out the picnic blanket and enjoy live music in Parramatta’s much-loved Wistaria Gardens this September, when the Gardens’ annual floral displays of wisteria and cherry blossoms bloom.

Explore what's on

Food and drink: Coffee and snacks will be available to purchase, or why not bring your own picnic?

Live music: Let the good times roll and immerse yourself with feel good music across the weekend performed by duo Highly Strung, Gav Darby and lyrical guitarist Chris Connolly.

Activities: Join Greater Sydney Parklands’ educators and find out about the lives of Parramatta Park’s most important inhabitants – plants and animals.

Workshops: Over two weekends, the garden of Glengariff House will be a hub of wellbeing, mindfulness and artistic creation with free workshops.

Tours: We have a range of free tours on offer throughout the day. Learn about First Nations' culture, the Wistaria Gardens spring plantings, explore one of Australia's oldest buildings or take a self-guided tour along the Parramatta River.

How to get there: Access to Wistaria Gardens is via Parramatta Park.  

Wistaria Gardens is located at the northern end of Parramatta Park. Entry is via Byrnes Avenue, near the Picnic Ground inside Parramatta Park. Limited parking is available nearby within the park, so taking public transport is recommended.

Celebrate World Rivers Day

Dive into this year’s World Rivers Day with an action-packed family day out at Parramatta Park and Old Government House. Discover Parramatta River’s amazing history and natural beauty, learn how to make clean drinking water, become an artist for the day, and much more!

Meet the knowledgeable and friendly Greater Sydney Parklands education rangers as you explore the stunning spring blossoms in Wistaria Gardens before winding your way along the Parramatta River to Old Government House.  Complete the activity trail along the way and bring your answers to Old Government House for a free copy of the Old Government House guidebook.

Learn how to care for wildlife and their habitat in our busy city with the ‘Our Living River’ team from the Parramatta River Catchment Group and join ‘Junior Riverkeeper’ citizen science and art activities in the Old Government House Courtyard from 10am – 3pm.

Discover Parramatta River’s fascinating First Nations and colonial history with special curator’s tours of The River: Burramatta to Cockatoo exhibition at Old Government House. Entry to the exhibition is ticketed and includes the tours that are held at 11am, 12:30pm and 2pm.
