Parramatta Park

The Paddocks Precinct upgrade

‘The Paddocks Precinct refers to the western area of Parramatta Park adjacent to Westmead. The area consists of The Cattle Paddock, West Domain, Salters Field, Coleman Oval and The Picnic Ground.

Project overview

Parramatta Park Trust is undertaking a major upgrade of the 'Paddocks Precinct' as part of a $20 Capital Works Program across the Park. This includes an $8.7 million investment into a new regional playground, new picnic shelters, barbecue facilities, public toilets, the restoration of the Queens Road Gatehouse and pathways to enhance the visitor experience.

Description of works:

Works will be delivered in a number of stages:

Stage 1 - New Domain Creek Playground - completed

Works include the first stage of the new Domain Greek Playground. This new state-of-the-art regional playground is located next to Domain Creek amongst existing trees that provide shade. The location provides sufficient space for this large regional playground and is a safe distance away from vehicular traffic. These works were completed in February 2015.

Stage 2 – Stage 2 of Playground works - completed

Works include the second stage of the playground including additional equipment for young children (under five years of age), a flying fox, new picnic shelters and pathways.

These new facilities replace the existing Salters Field Playground, picnic shelters and barbecue facilities which are reaching the end of their serviceable life.

Stage 3 – Picnic facilities, public toilets and gatehouse restoration - underway

Works include additional picnic shelters, public toilet and barbecue facilities, car parking, and restoration and extension of the Queens Road Gatehouse. These works are due to be completed at the end of 2016.

Works in ‘The Paddocks Precinct’ will consist of the following:
